Very Handy Windows Vista

Very Handy Windows Vista/7 Shortcut Keys

Aside from the normal, more well known shortcut keys like Windows Key + D to show the desktop or Windows Key + L to lock the desktop, I stumbled upon another set of shortcut keys while messing with an AutoHotKey script.

Anyways, I discovered that hitting the Windows Key + a number 0-9 starts or maximizes the window in the corresponding position in your taskbar.

For example, take a look at the picture below.  If you hit Windows Key + 1, it will open Internet Explorer.  If you do Windows Key + 2, the Libraries (Windows Explorer) will open, Windows Key + 3 will make Windows Media Player open, and so on.

If the applications are already opened, then the shortcut keys will minimize/maximize the windows.

If you have more than one window of a particular application, say 3 Internet Explorer windows, then hitting the shortcut key for Internet Explorer (Windows Key + 1 in this case) will scroll through the open windows in an alt-tab manner.

For a complete listing of Windows Shortcut keys, here's a good page with them all laid out:
