Uniea just released a new line of protective cases in some interesting configurations and was kind enough to send me some samples to review.

First up, we have the Omniverse 10.2″ netbook sleeve. From the site, it features:

  • Interior is both shock and heat-absorbent for total protection of your laptop
  • Bottom wave-shaped cushion absorbs and dissipates heat from the bottom of your computer
  • Heat sink allows your laptop’s fan to dissipate heat
  • Full access to ports for easy recharging and data transfer

The perimeter of the case is rigid and makes the case overall feel more solid while the silk fiber makes the case feel soft an gives it a classy look. It’s outer material consists of silk fiber and the inner protective lining consists of neoprene with great memory characteristics and an egg crate texture, which contributes to the case’s shock resistant properties. The interior also includes corner straps to hold your laptop in place. That way, you can use your netbook without having to take it out of the case.

One other feature not seen in many other sleeves is an addtionaly pocket on the front. While many people use laptop bags, some people prefer to use a smaller sleeve to tote their laptops around. The only problem is that the sleeves never had an extra pocket to put your power cord or extra battery in, until now.

Uniea also recently released a 2.5″ hard drive/digital camera/MP3 Player case as well. This case includes the same features as the 10.2″ notebook case, but in a smaller size. The inside of the case is the same shock resistant neoprene used in the 10.2″ netbook case and it even has an extra pocket as well. The extra pocket comes in handy for carrying a USB/Firewire cable, or simply an extra set of batteries. Also, the small case includes a belt loop for attaching the case to different things.

All in all, the neoprene protective lining used in these cases is excellent. The material is firm, yet soft and “cushiony”, has great memory characteristics, and the egg crate design helps absorb any kind of shock. The exterior is classy looking and soft to the touch.

Uniea appears to have good quality control as well; I was looking for minor imperfections like loose threads and could not find any. Usually with cheap cases, you’ll find a few loose threads and the case falls apart over time.

My only gripe is the extra front pocket. Because these are some small cases, the front pocket doesn’t hold much without bulging out. But hey, for such small cases, what do you expect?

If you can find these cases in a store near you, then they are definetely recommended. If you just HAVE to get your hands on one of these, visit Uniea’s site where you can directly order from them.
