15.4″ LCD Screen Resolutions – WUXGA (1920 x 1200) Is The Way To Go!

A little part inside of my laughs every time I see a 15.4″ WXGA (1200 x 800) laptop display. I realize the people using the laptop have no clue when it comes to computers, but to me, looking at a 15.4″ 1200 x 800 resolution is like a blast from the past. That’s almost as much torture as an 800 x 600 display :-?

Most people don’t know about the awesome 1920 x 1200 resolution WUXGA 15.4″ LCD panels that can be configured with some laptops. The additional resolution makes a HUGE difference in daily computing. Right off the bat, you are twice as productive when compared to someone using the lower resolutions. You can fit more on your screen at once – that translates to less time finding and switching windows, and more time working.

1920 x 1200 is the same resolution standard in 24″ LCD monitors today. However, when you squeeze that resolution into a 15.4″ LCD panel, the pixel density increases dramatically, which among other things, gives you some very sharp looking text. Here’s a comparison of a 15.4″ 1920 x 1200 WUXGA screen vs (2) 19″ LCD Monitors running at 1280 x 1024.

15.4" WUXGA vs (2) 19" LCD Monitors. The 15.4" screen has almost as much real estate as 2 19" LCD monitors.

If your eyesight isn’t as good as it used to be, then a 15.4″ WUXGA screen probably would not suit you well because of the tiny text. However, for programmers and people who crave productivity, the 1920 x 1200 resolution works wonders when viewing multiple windows.

There’s nothing like having 24″ LCD resolution crammed into a 15.4″ space :)

Nice article, I always wondered if I could somehow upgrade my laptop’s lcd. I have a intel santa rosa Toshiba a205 notebook that already has upgrades on HardDrive and RAM. Do you think that I could upgrade my lcd like you did yours? Would you know wich brand/reseller to look for info?

Perosonally I think that 1680×1050 15.4″ display would be ideal for my needs, IDK if these exists, but I didn’t know that wuxgs 15.4″ displays existed also. So, what do you think? Can you help me upgrade my lappy’s screen?

Thank you.
